William Shakespeare’s OTHELLO

Presented by Anywhere Theatre Company

David Rockefeller Creative Arts Center at Pocantico

Ticket price: $16.75

Anywhere Theatre Company presents a work-in-progress performance of its new, groundbreaking interpretation of Othello.

In the Anywhere production, Othello is a Black woman general praised for her tactical aggression on the battlefield but shunned by society at home. When Othello secretly marries Desdemona, the daughter of a powerful but bigoted senator, she becomes increasingly ostracized.

Othello and Desdemona hope to create a world for themselves free of prejudice. But their plans are thwarted by Iago, Othello’s most trusted aide, whose jealousy and deception set this tragedy into breathtaking motion.

Set in a nameless desert war, this production of Othello is a searing exploration of race, gender, sexual orientation, and the destructive power of disinformation.

After the performance, director Peter Royston and the cast will discuss the work. A reception, which includes access to the exhibition in the DR Center gallery, will follow.

As with all of Shakespeare's tragedies, Othello contains scenes of violence and is intended for mature audiences.

This event will be livestreamed below.
