Renowned florist and instructor Judith Setsuko Hata will lead a discussion of the philosophies of Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging, followed by a hands-on workshop. Using materials from Pocantico’s Japanese Garden, each participant will create a classical Ikebana arrangement to take home and enjoy. This workshop is appropriate for all levels, including beginners. All materials, as well as light refreshments, will be provided.
This workshop will be held entirely outdoors. Please wear sturdy, comfortable shoes, and dress appropriately. The Japanese Garden has some uneven paths that can be slippery. Please contact pocanticoprograms@rbf.org for inquiries about accessibility.

All tickets must be purchased in advance online. ALL TICKET HOLDERS must show proof of vaccination and wear masks in all indoor spaces at The Pocantico Center. Proof of vaccination and a valid picture ID must be presented upon check-in.
Judith Hata
Judith Hata has taught Japanese flower arranging for over six decades. She learned directly under Sofu Teshigahara, founder of the Sogetsu School, where she attained the rank of Riji, the highest teacher's degree. She has taught and demonstrated for The Brooklyn Botanical Garden, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and other esteemed museums and organizations. Hata received Consul General of Japan in New York’s Commendation in 2014 and Japan’s Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays, in 2017 for outstanding contribution to Japan-U.S. cultural relations.
