A performance by renowned tap dancer and choreographer Ayodele Casel, her team of dancers and musicians, and director Torya Beard will kick off the 2024 Culpeper Summer Performance Series at Pocantico. The group will present excerpts from works-in-process developed during their residency at Pocantico and from some of Casel’s groundbreaking and dynamic repertory work. A conversation with Casel and the creative team will follow the performance. Ticketholders are invited to stay for a reception with special access to the DR Center gallery, currently showing Portraits of Process.

Ayodele Casel

Ayodele Casel, hailed by the New York Times as a “tap dancer and choreographer of extraordinary depth,” is a Doris Duke Artist known for her skilled and imaginative improvisation. Casel's projects include her concert and Bessie Award-winning film Chasing Magic, and her Drama Desk-nominated work as tap choreographer for the Broadway revival of Funny Girl. Most recently, she and Torya Beard premiered Rooted, a film for ALL ARTS TV, and the acclaimed Freedom…in Progress, a celebration of the legendary Max Roach.
